Jomsom is a famous and great place to start trekking. The diverse geographical landscapes and cultures to be found along the trekking routes give remarkable insight into the way of life of Himalayan People.
After few distance heading form jomsom you will reach the Muktinath, the Famous holy pilgrimage site for Hindus and Buddhist. For Hindus, this is the holiest place of salvation. They believe that bathing in the waters here guarantees salvation after death. The Hindu Gud, Brahma, is said to have lit the external flames that burn at Muktinath. Apart from that,Muktinath is the place where the great sage guru Rinpoche ( Padmasambhavs) came to meditate and worship. This area is the perfect place of the fossilized ammonites ( Saligram) found along the kaligandaki site.
Surrounding part of there is inhabited by magar and Gurungs in the lower regions of kali Gandaki, Thakalis around Jomsom and people with obvious Tibetan roots. The best season for exploring and visit of this holy place is September to November and March to May. There have option to reach sacred place by trek and by use transportation which depends on your timeframe, wiliness and interest. Most popular Trekking route is pokhara-Nayapul-Ghorepani- Tatopani and along with KaliGandaki gorge. Between Kaligandaki and Late Khola, there is dramatic change of scenery. The Famous and beautiful apple village Named of Marpha also near form Jomsom which takes about 2 hours down from Jomsome. Additionally, another most attractive place kagbeni village also near from jomsome. It takes about 2-3 hours walk form Jomsome. Kagbeni to Muktinath is a 3-4 hours trek and trekkers can choose to do this as a day trip or stay overnight at teahouse in Muktinath.
Jomsone Airport is best known airport that offers quick entry or exit to the valley with regular daily flight form pokhara. The strong wind that blow up the valley prevents flight form taking off from Jomsom after 11AM. Jomsom can also be considered a place to use as a base for exploring the upper part of the Kali Gandaki reason. There are various accommodation options including a modern resort complex.
