The Koshi Tappu wildlife reserve is a protected area in the Terai of Eastern Nepal, The area of reserve covering 175 Sq. Km of wetland in the Sunseri, safari and udayapur districts. It was mainly established to protect the rare wild water buffaloes. It comprises extensive mudflats, various attractive grasses, and freshwater marshes in the floodplain of the Saptakoshi River. The lands range in altitude 75 to 81 meters from Sea Level. It was established in 1976 and designates as a Ramsar (Water) site in December 1987.
One of the most rewarding and greatest natural lands Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve is about 10 hours driving distance from Kathmandu. The total distance is 450 Km far from Kathmandu and we can reach through Mahindra highway. It is also possible to Domestic flight to Biratnagar, from there it takes 50 km Journey by Road, which indicted about 1.5 hours journey from Biratnagar.
This beautiful Reserve provides an important habitat for a variety of wildlife but, in particular, water birds, including several migratory species such as the Sarus crane from Siberia. In all, a total of 280 different species of birds have been recorded and these include many varieties of ducks, ibis, storks, egrets, and herons, as well as the endangered swamp partridges and Bengal floricans.
Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve also makes an exciting alternative destination of visitors who have already visited Royal Chitwan National Park and Bardia National Park.

Day 01: Drive or fly from Kathmandu to Biratnagar
We take Tourist Buses/ Jeep, a Private car from Kathmandu to Biratnagar. Visitors can get off before Laukhi and walk 3 Km to the reserve headquarters, which is marked by signboard on the main way. Option; 45 Minute flight from Kathmandu to Biratnagar airport, then from their one and half hour drive to Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve Guest Reception, Welcome Briefing by Professional Guide and take Lunch. In the afternoon hours program initiation with bird watching safari around the National park. With this, you can see strokes, ibises, snipes, Waterfowl, bird of prey and many more. In the evening there is a reserved dinner of Typical Nepali Cuisine, overnight at Respective Hotel/ Lodge.
Day 02: All Day sightseeing Within National Park.
Early morning we move for nature walk within near vicinity. After breakfast, we start Raft boat ride on the Sapta Koshi River with a naturalist to view some of the water birds, water buffaloes, dolphins, and various water habitats. End boat trip by the banks of the river and have a picnic lunch. Short drive to the Koshi barrage for view some bird life and freshwater dolphins. Late afternoon returns to Lodge/Hotel and enjoys the dinner with wildlife discussion with cultural dance.
Day 03: Departure from Kathmandu.
Early morning you can either enjoy Bird watching around the Park area or have a leisure walk around the village. After breakfast departure from the lodge/hotel to Kathmandu. For Transportation, you will have options back to Kathmandu. Therefore, as your requirement, you can take land transportation or flight.

Day 02: After breakfast Proceed for jungle Excursion with packed Lunch.
Early morning wake up and take Breakfast and move for Jungle Excursion. This day we will spend the whole day on exploring jungle activities with packed Lunch. In the evening cultural we will enjoy the cultural dance program of the local Jhagad tribe's Dinner, stay overnight at Respective Hotel/Lodge.
Day 03: Boating and Jeep Safari
After breakfast, you go for a full day excursion on a boat and four-wheel drive with packed Lunch. You may see the wild buffaloes along the sandbanks and the rare genetic dolphins in the water. In the evening enjoy dinner with wildlife discussion.
Day 04: Departure for Lodge/ Hotel.
